The daughter had not been to the house for over 5 years. Upon her return, her father cursed her out:

“Where have you been all this time, you ingrate! Why didn’t you write us? Not even a line to let us know how you were doing? Why didn’t you call? You little tramp! Don’t you know what you put your Mom through??!!”

The girl, crying: “Sniff, sniff.. dad.. I became a prostitute…”

“WHAT? Out of here, you shameless harlot, sinner! You’re a disgrace to this family! I don’t ever want to see you again!”

“OK, Dad. As you wish. I just came back to give Mom this fur coat and title to a mansion, a savings account certificate of $5 million for my little brother, and for you, Daddy, this gold Rolex, the spanking new BMW that’s parked outside and a lifetime membership to the Country Club.. and an invitation for you all to spend New Years’ Eve, on board my new yacht in the Riviera, and ..

“Now what was it you said you had become?”

Girl, crying again: Sniff, sniff “A prostitute Dad!”

“Oh, Gee! you scared me half to death, girl! I thought you said “A Protestant! Come here and give your old man a hug!”

Note from the blog owner:  This story has been sent to me via email and though it’s not really religious, I will post it under my ‘Religion’ blog since it can be used in church sermons. :D   This is amusing.

***

On the first day God created the dog. God said, “Sit all day by the door of your house and bark at anyone who comes in or walks past. I will give you a life span of twenty years.”

The dog said, “That’s too long to be barking. Give me ten years and I’ll give you back the other ten.” So God agreed.

On the second day God created the monkey. God said, “Entertain people, do monkey tricks, make them laugh. I’ll give you a twenty- year life span.”

The monkey said, “How boring, monkey tricks for twenty years? I don’t think so. Dog gave you back ten, so that’s what I’ll do too, okay?” And God agreed.

On the third day God created the cow. God said, “You must go to the field with the farmer all day long and suffer under the sun, have calves and give milk to support the farmer. I will give you a life span of sixty years.”

The cow said, “That’s kind of a tough life you want me to live for sixty years. Let me have twenty and I’ll give back the other forty.” And God agreed again.

On the forth day God created man. God said, “Eat, sleep, play, marry and enjoy your life. I’ll give you twenty years.”

Man said, “What? Only twenty years! Tell you what, I’ll take my twenty, and the forty the cow gave back and the ten the monkey gave back and the ten the dog gave back, that makes eighty, okay?” “Okay,” said God, “You’ve got a deal.”

So that is why the first twenty years we eat, sleep, play, and enjoy ourselves; for the next forty years we slave in the sun to support our family; for the next ten years we do monkey tricks to entertain the grandchildren; and for the last ten years we sit on the front porch and bark at everyone.

Life has now been explained to you.

Spiritual freedom appears to be so hard to attain but this article by Fish @ ThePiscean.Com makes it appear so easy.

Ever had that feeling of being so down? The feeling of looking for someone or something that would somehow miraculously solve all your problem? Ever had that feeling of being empty? alone? sad? Ever had that thought of taking away your own life just to escape the bondages of this life? Well, I had experienced those too and I’m not going to pitch any religion to you. I will not even try to talk about Jesus, or Krishna, or Allah. Rather, I will talk about you.

3 Steps to Achieving Spiritual Freedom

If I’m not mistaken, most (if not all) religions all over the world have their own versions of heaven and hell. Heaven being the place of God, his angels, & his followers and hell being the abode of the devil or a place of punishment for the devil, its followers, and the evildoers.

But is there really such a thing as heaven and hell? Or are they just imaginary places to drive people into doing what their religious affiliations want them to do?

Since I was a child, I’ve been taught that the good go to heaven and the bad go to hell. When I grew older, things changed a bit but is more or less the same. When I joined protestantism, they told me that I have to accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Saviour so I can go to heaven. Now, I don’t really care because I no longer believe in heaven or in hell though I do believe in God.

I think heaven and hell are the most powerful means of the church or any religion to force their followers to obey their doctrines.

Who wants pancakes??? Oh you do? Ok, but you have to do this first. Get the point?

Ok, I’ll keep this short. Think about it. There’s no reason to be scared, you’re free aren’t you?

The only heaven and hell that you can end up with is one that you make for yourself.

What really happens to a man after he dies?

This is something that is really difficult prove myself since I haven’t returned from the dead nor has anyone come back to life from death. Of course, in Christian teachings we have Jesus Christ who is claimed to have died, have gone over to the place of the dead, and resurrected back to life. However, Jesus made his teachings of heaven and hell BEFORE he had died and did not make mention of anything about it after his supposed resurrection. I understand if you will argue that Jesus knows because he is God, or at least the son of God as some Christian sects teac but then that’s a different topic on its own.
Remember that what you will be reading is based on my own beliefs. Let’s proceed. First let’s tackle the physical matter. After man dies, his body starts to decay. Typically (if buried), his body continues to decay until it becomes part of the soil. The soil gets nutrients from the decayed body and the nutrients will most likely be taken in by plants and / or soil ingesting organisms such as earthworms. Either way, they get eaten… and so on and so forth. There comes the possibility that the cycle will involve another human being who is alive and makes use of ‘recycled’ nutrients for himself or herself. A pregnant woman can also be involved after which the nutrients can be transferred to another baby. Of course, this is an oversimplified story but I’m sure you got the point. One way or another, there is the probability that you have taken in the nutrients from a dead man…. Gross???? Fact.

Ok, now onto the spiritual matter – the more interesting part.

There are two major beliefs when it comes to life after death – one is eternal life (or damnation) in either heaven or hell and the other is reincarnation.

Note that I am merely stating my own belief and not trying to prove the truth or the lack of it in the either of these beliefs. To me, I believe that we are to pass this life only but once and there is no second chance. After we die, our non-physical being (spirit or soul or both – whatever it is) simply goes back to where we came from – to God. Whether you did good or bad doesn’t really matter – at least that’s what I believe. However, this is not a ticket for us to do evil. For our deeds are rewarded accordingly. When and where will these rewards be given? Here and now, in this very lifetime.

Let me clarify this further.

We all come from God and therefore we must all return to God. In the end, there is neither heaven nor hell but there will be God. Our deeds on the other hand are rewarded in this very lifetime. We are judged here and now and we receive the punishments and rewards here and now as well. Do a crime and you are separated from the general population. Do good and you gain acceptance. Simple and true. ?Will I reap eternal fruits from the good or bad that I do?”, you may ask. I say no. Even as the ripples in a pond would settle a while after you thrown a stone, so shall all things in life. Neither good nor evil is eternal. Only God is eternal and God is neither good nor evil but he is all in all.

So to sum it all up, two things happen after we die – our physical body gets recycled with the rest of the earth and our spiritual body returns to God much as how it came from God.

This is what I believe in.

This is a question that keeps on separating – most of the time – religion from science. It is quite funny that man has been arguing with each other on whether a Supreme Being exists and whether this God is involved in man’s affairs or not.
I’ve been doing a lot of soul-searching recently and this question is among those that needs to be answered quickly – “Is God and the devil real?”Note that I included the devil in the question for two main reasons:

  1. So that you won’t think that I’m moving into satanism.
  2. Because if God doesn’t exist then the devil won’t exist at all. This assumption is based on my own personal knowledge that no religion in the world exists without having a good being and a bad being. In other words, the existence of the devil being the bad one will be based entirely on the existence of God being the good one. The devil simply won’t exist without God.
Ok, that being said, let us continue. This question was raised in my mind in the early parts of 2005 when a very dramatic event in my life occurred. As a believer, I always believed what the bible said one of which is ‘Ask and you shall receive.’ Of course, I understand that asking here must be done with faith and that is what I do when I pray. So then, I asked God for a simple request – a happy family. To those who think that I should be more specific in making my requests, this is what I can say – I don’t think God is stupid so as not to know the desires of my heart when I ask him for something. Anyway, I asked God for this and after so much waiting, I haven’t received the happy family that I was expecting. I see the same problems that haunted our (me and my wife) folks. I’ve tried everything that pastors suggested just to get things right but somehow God is not listening – or perhaps he is not there at all.

That’s how my search for the existence of God began. I asked, read, and even in my troubled spiritual status, I even prayed. But then no God seems to answer. Then the ultimate day has come. The day I’ve set for myself, the day of decision.

I made a conclusion for myself and here it is. My faith in the existence of a Supreme Being remains BUT is now somewhat different than what it used to be. I don’t believe in the God of the Christians or do I believe in the God of Islam. Also worth mentioning is that I don’t believe in the God of the Satanist or the like. In fact, I don’t think I believe in the God(s) of any of the religion that exists at the moment but then I may be wrong.

Here is what I really believe in.

I believe in a God, a Supreme Being, a Force which is beyond what any man can comprehend at the moment. I believe in a God who does not interfere with the affairs of man but rather has set things right from the beginning of the universe. A God who respects the rights of humanity, a God who respects man’s decision. I believe in a God who mourns for all creation but also rejoices with it.

I don’t believe that God created man in any direct manner but I believe in a God who has made ready all the ingredients necessary for the development of life. I believe in a God who – much like the Big Bang in modern science – is the beginning of all and has no beginning in himself for he himself is the beginning of all.

Now, whether this God is a true God in the religious point of view or simply the source of all matter as science would take it, doesn’t really matter to me. The fact is, nothing can exist without a source. A car exists because metal exists. Metal exists because the elements exist. The elements exist because atoms exist and so on and so forth. In science, this can be traced all the way back to the big bang – a moment in the universe when time itself never existed at all. This source is what I call God for it (or he or she) alone is the sole thing (or being) that did not have a source on its own. (Ok, if science eventually found out that the big bang came from something else then the same question is raised – where did that ‘something else’ comes from? Ultimately, there has to be a source for everything and this source must not come from anything).

Lastly, I don’t believe in a God who requires the service of man because the God I believe in already has everything that he needs. Otherwise, he won’t be God at all. Rather, I believe in a God who serves man for it is he who serves that has the real honor.

This is the God I believe in.

Some of you may now say that the God I believe in is a passive God as opposed to the obviously ‘active’ God in all religious texts that we can find. Well, actually I think this God is still active in all things at the moment. The God I believe in exists in everything around us – in both living and non-living things. The God I believe in is the very air that we breath, the very food that we eat, and even our very selves for he is IN and AROUND us all. I am a piece of this God and so are you.

Furthermore, I believe that my God has set all laws in the entire universe – from the basic stuff of Physics to the very complex matters of life. From the simplest to the grandest. I also believe in miracles but I look at it from a different perspective. I believe that miracles are not mere interference of God with the affairs of man BUT I believe that miracles are also governed by laws that have been set from the beginning. Laws that as of now still can’t be fully comprehended by man.

That said, you now know that I believe in God, the source everything that is seen and unseen. You will then ask me, “Are you a Christian? Or a Muslim? Or a Buddhist?” My answer is “No.” At this point and time and perhaps until the day I that I die, I have only one thing to say about my religion which I quote from the Bible itself in the book of James Chapter 1 Verse 27, “Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.”

So, do I believe in God? Yes, I do. BUT keep this mind, your God is most likely not the same God as mine.

Now, what about the devil? If I believe in God, then surely I must believe in the devil. I will keep this simple yet firm. We will never know what white is if black did not exist. We will never enjoy the benefits of light if we haven’t experienced darkeness. So what is the devil? The devil is the mere counter-balance of God and is a part of God.

Finally, I think God exists in science and science exists in God and both of them are correct for science is the most direct and perfect evidence of the existence of God.

Genesis Anomaly

Have you ever read the book of Genesis? If so, have you noticed
the anomaly in it? I’m referring to Chapters 1 and 2 of the
first book of the bible. Ok, whether you’ve read it or not, I
invite you to open your bibles to the book of Genesis and follow me
through and I will show you the anomaly in it.

But what’s this Genesis anomaly? It’s in the sequence of creation. I
find it odd that the first two chapters of the revered book contradicts
each other in telling what is supposed to be one of the most important
stories of the world.

In Genesis Chapter 1, the sequence of creation is as follows:

  • Day 0 – God created the heavens and the earth. Apparently there
is also water since the Spirit of God hovered above the waters.
    (Genesis 1:1-2)
  • Day 1 – God created light (Genesis 1:3-5)
  • Day 2 – God created heaven or the firmament that separated the waters above and the waters below (Genesis 1:6-8)
  • Day 3 – God made dry land to appear and called it earth, and the waters
he called seas. On the same day, he also made the plants (Genesis
    1:9-13)
  • Day 4 – God made the sun, the moon, and the stars (Genesis 1:14-19)
  • Day 5 – God made the fowls (birds) and the creatures of the sea (Genesis 1:20-23)
  • Day 6 – God created first the animals, then after them he created man and woman (Genesis 1:24-28)

Based on Genesis Chapter 1, it would be safe to say that man was
created last since this chapter has been very specific in the sequence
of creation by making mention of the days. In fact I’ve heard
pastors use this statement to
prove that man was so important to God that God prepared everything
first before he created man.

And it is this very statement which will prove to be anomalous in
Chapter 2 and the best way to look into this Genesis anomaly is to read
chapter 2.

Chapter 2 by the way starts smoothly as a continuation of chapter 1 by
saying that on the seventh day (note we are already on the sixth day in
chapter 1), God rested from all his work. (Genesis 2:1-3)
Let’s continue walking through it…

  • Genesis 2:4-6 – God created the heavens and earth, the plants (but
haven’t caused them to grow yet because there was no man to till the
ground), and also there was this mist that watered the earth.
    Nice summary, no problems here.
  • Genesis 2:7 – God created man (no woman yet) from the dust of the
earth. Hmmm, I smell something fishy here… Where are the
    animals???
  • Genesis 2:8-9 – God builds the garden of Eden and causes the plants which he already created previously to grow.
  • Genesis 2:10-14 – Pretty description of Eden
  • Genesis 2:15 – God puts man in Eden
  • Genesis 2:16-17 – God instructs man on what to eat and what not to eat
  • Genesis 2:18-20 – God notices that it is not good for man to be
alone and so God creates the fowls of the air and the beasts of the
earth apparently as a solution to man’s loneliness. Man names all
the animals (some task for one man ei?) but man didn’t find a suitable
partner. Aha!!! Here are the animals! But weren’t they
supposed to have been created before man?
  • Genesis
2:21-23 – God causes man (Adam) to fall asleep, took a rib out of him,
and out of the rib, he created woman (Eve) to be man’s partner.

If you have followed me this far then you have most probably already
found the Genesis Anomaly that I was trying to say. But still,
allow me to continue.

In Chapter 1, the fowls were created in Day 5 together with the sea
creatures and the animals were created on Day 6. Then on
the same day (day 6), God also creates man. But in chapter 2, man
came first, then due to his loneliness, he creates the animals to be
man’s companion but since man did not find a suitable partner among the
animals, God decided to create Eve out of Adam’s rib.

How could such inconsistence occur in the first two chapters of the
first book of the world’s best selling book be allowed??? The
bible claims to be the inspired word of God (2 Timothy 3:16), and yet
how could such a great manuscript as believed by many to be God’s word tolerate such an
anomaly as this in Genesis?

I’ve asked several pastors and priests regarding this matter and in general, they’ve answered the following:

Pastors – Genesis 1 and 2 were written simply to state that God created
everything and most especially, that God created man and thus the
details are not that important.

Priests – The bible as a whole is but a theory.

My answer???

To pastors – if Genesis 1 and 2 were written to simply say that God
created everything and especially man and not the details, then why go
in such detail as mentioning the days of creation (Chapter 1), how man
was formed (from the dust of the earth), the reason why the fowls and
the beasts were created (to be man’s companion but were not found suitable), and how
eventually woman came to be (to finally be man’s suitable
partner)??? Isn’t it odd for you pastors to say that Genesis 1
and 2 were not meant to be detailed when in fact the writer wishes to
detail it this much?

To priests – if the whole Bible is but a theory, then God is a theory,
the death and resurrection of Christ a theory, the saints of the bible
a theory, and worst – the hope of salvation for all mankind also a
theory!!! And if all these are theory, then why preach them in
the churches as if they are facts??? What an irony!!!

Now, I do not wish to jump right into conclusions as I myself am still
looking for answers but sad to say have found none so far.
Furthermore, I’ve asked church leaders and they too were not able to
give me any ‘educated’ and ‘respectable’ answers. So what is
Genesis after all??? Or in that case, the entire bible???
Is it just a book that claims which it cannot really claim at all???

Funny ain’t it? That a book that conquered so many, that such a
book by which almost all the law of man is founded – even the
constitution of most nations, that a book by which so much reverence is
attributed have failed to prove its own dignity in its first two
chapters?

Now, what do I say about this? I think the bible is just a book
and in fact I think there are many books that will prove to be better
than it in terms of consistency and truth. On the other hand, I seriously think that the bible will
still be a good book to add to one’s library as a reminder that mankind
was once so blind to believe in it with all his heart
.

This is the Genesis Anomaly.

Do you believe in God? If you do, then why? If not, still, why? This is the very question that I am asking myself in this very life of
mine. This is the question that made me stop and think – I mean
really think about it. If there is no God, then where did we come
from? Perhaps, that’s the very question that the ancients asked
themselves – and perhaps that started all religion – the question of
existence – who created us? The easiest answer is well,
God. There has to be some source – some God – from where we all
came from. Otherwise, how did we become what we are now?

But then, was it God who created man? Or did man create
God? Many religions all over the world has its own creation
story. Different stories and different ways but they all point to
one fact – that God created man. However, with the inconsistency
of the creation stories among different religions, the thought of “man
creating God” becomes more real. How then you would say did man
create God? By this I mean that man – in the middle of all his
questions – has to find an answer but not finding any answer, decided
to create an answer and the easiest answer would be the idea of having
a creator – a God who by his (or her) powers created man. With
such an answer, most men dared not question because of the fear that
their creator might get mad at them and ruin them.

Where does the rain come from? The thunders and lightnings?
Who rules the seas? The earth? The air? I find it
funny that before, when man had no idea about the moon, that they
worshipped the moon as the God who governed the night. But now,
the divine status of the moon has been reduced to simple a satellite
that revolves around the earth. That before, the planets were
worshipped but now they are explored and studied. That before,
men pray to the gods and goddesses for rain but now, we simply seed the
clouds to bring us rain.

Perhaps soon, we will find an answer to our very own existence and
perhaps soon – God will no longer be needed because we already know.

And so now I find myself walking between two paths – the path of faith
and the path of logic. One says, believe, the other says,
know. One says don’t ask questions, just believe while the other
says, ask everything you can ask for through it you will know. I
know that sooner or later I must decide which path to take as the gap
between the two gets wider and wider and wider for each passing
day. And when that time comes, there is no turning back.

Maybe you find yourself in much the same situation as I am in right
now. Or perhaps you have answers. Either way, I will love
to hear from you. If you too are asking the same questions as I
am, then perhaps you can join me in my quest. Or perhaps you can
run your own adventure and just tell me what you find. The fact
and the truth here is that we are all seeking for answers. In a
modern age when only a few remain unanswered – somehow we have this
feeling that sooner or later we will KNOW.

I almost gave in
I almost lost
This day almost got to me
Into the air my hands
I tossed

Almost walked away
Almost cried
Almost threw caution into the wind
Happiness for myself
I almost denied

Almost .

Then .

I heard a whisper
into my ear …..
“Don’t you ever give up
I’m right here”

I felt a brush of love
against my face
Wings wrapped around me
in a warm embrace

At that point I knew …..
Because I was shown
I was not here with my battles
all alone

Life is not handed to us
on a silver platter
It can get tough
Actually many things are
hard to accomplish for that matter

I’m no where near perfection….
But, an angel gave me a little nudge
in the right direction

So, my friend
this is what I’m going to do
Because she helped me
work my day through
I’m going to send her on ……
Right to you!

And after she helps you with your day
Send her on to someone else
without delay …..

A Beautiful Analogy

A man went to a barbershop to have his hair cut
and his beard trimmed. As the barber began to work, they began to have
a good conversation. They talked about so many things and various
subjects. When they eventually touched on the subject of God, the
barber said: “I don’t believe that God exists.”"Why do you say that?” asked the customer.
“Well, you just have to go out in the street to
realize that God doesn’t exist. Tell me, if God exists, would there be
so many sick people? Would there be abandoned children? If God existed,
there would be neither suffering nor pain. I can’t imagine a loving God
who would allow all of these things.”The customer thought for a moment, but didn’t respond because he didn’t want to start an argument.

The barber finished his job and the customer left the shop. Just after
he left the barbershop, he saw a man in the street with long, stringy,
dirty hair and an untrimmed beard. He looked dirty and unkempt.

The customer turned back and entered the barber shop again and he said to the barber: “You know what? Barbers do not exist.”

“How can you say that?” asked the surprised barber. “I am here, and I am a barber. And I just worked on you!”

“No!” the customer exclaimed. “Barbers don’t exist because if they did,
there would be no people with dirty long hair and untrimmed beards,
like that man outside.”

“Ah, but barbers DO exist! ” answered the barber. “What happens, is,people do not come to me.”

“Exactly!”- affirmed the customer. “That’s the point! God, too, DOES
exist! What happens, is, people don’t go to Him and do not look for
Him. That’s why there’s so much pain and suffering in the world.”
